Welcome to Fairways News & Notes! Stay up to date with all the latest news and notes in the golfing world. I will talk about upcoming events, news from the industry, my golfing experiences and trip notes from our yearly golf vacation. So lets get started...
In only a couple of hours the 2011 PGA Tour Season will kick off in Hawaii at Kapalua. What will 2011 bring? Will Tiger make a comeback to remember? Will all of those who changed companies continue to perform? Which 'young gun' is going to step up this year?
2011 is the year of many headlines and there is no bigger headline than Tiger Woods. Will he return to his former glory? We all expect to see him in San Diego at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. This is a place he loves to play and a place he grew up playing. But will his new swing be ready to go? I was able to watch most of the Chevron Challenge and Tiger looked like he was really starting to get his new swing working, but the bigger question will be his putting. Can the best putter the game has ever seen continue to poor in putts when he needs too? Or will other players continue to do to Tiger what he has done to them for year?
What Graeme McDowell did at the Chevron was great for the game of golf! He stood up to Tiger Woods on the 18th green (twice) and pored in two putts to take down Woods. But will the change in equipment hinder McDowell's chances at another great season? It will be interesting to see if he can carry over his great play into 2011 with these changes and continue to produce the same great results. Year after year we see many players make the jump to other equipment manufactures and lose their games. Hopefully, we wont see the likes of McDowell, Furyk and Camillo do the same.
Best of the luck to everyone on tour this year and hopefully it will be another great year!
Next up on the tee...
